37th Anniversary of Peace Day in Chicago
Friday September 18, 2015 Noon to 1 pm
Daley Plaza, 50 West Washington Street, Chicago
Join Chicago’s remarkable tradition of coming together in support of peacebuilding in families, schools, communities, our beloved city and beyond.
A special afternoon for all ages, Peace Day includes the observance of One Minute of Silence for Peace, live music by the Salaam-Shalom Music Project, remarks by some of Chicago’s prominent peace builders including Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Illinois Department of Human Rights Director Rocco Claps, exotic cultural performance by Indonesian Dance of Illinois and more.
Chicago sends peace to the world during the Call to Peace and World Peace Flag Ceremony, a colorful procession of the world’s flags carried by members of the Chicago Consular Corps, representatives of ethnic and cultural institutions, students and volunteers. Lend your voice to the Call as everyone on the Plaza proclaims aloud, “Peace in [each country, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe]” while each flag is beautifully presented on stage. The Right to Peace sing-along closes out an inspiring event that serves as a wonderful model of how all of us can contribute to building peace on a daily basis. Join us on Sept. 18th and be part of this unforgettable experience of peace!
